When I write articles about rich people – say with net worth of Rs. 10 crores and above – I get comments saying “such people don’t need help” or “you are wasting our time” or “ovarian lottery” he /she has done NOTHING to deserve it. I am not surprised at all.

Look at how we are taught to hate wealth creation and the wealth creation process. All the commies in the world are clear about one thing: “All big wealth is ill-gotten”. Sure. Except when it comes to their own wealth. Now I know a few commie spiel blabbering Commie Journos who have net worth in excess of  Rs.20 crores. How do you reconcile the two?

How do you reconcile with venomous messages about the wedding expenses of Virat-Anushka, Deepika-Ranveer, etc? Hey they earned the money, paid the taxes and are now spending their own money, on their own wedding. I was told by one of the guests attending the wedding that not less than 10k Ola and Uber taxis would have plied that day for ferrying people. Yes. Makes sense many people choose to take a cab instead of taking their own cars and worrying about parking. Weddings make good economics also. Sorry. I digress.

We have been taught to hate the rich man – look at movies. It is the poor man who is good and the rich man who is bad. Normally Indian movies show wealth as normally ill-gotten and rich people having no morals. I still have no clue why this happens – remember the guy funding such a movie is a capitalist! No ‘real’ socialist can afford to fund our expensive movies!

Recently (I mean over the last decade) we are making movies where the rich don’t have to feel guilty about being rich. See movies like Khabhi Kushi Kabhi gham. Even here there is some arrogance thrown in -bringing in the class difference.

So when you see articles about people with Rs. 2 crore income, or with Rs. 20 crore net-worth just read and move on. If you cannot identify with the blog post, move on. If you can (in your mind) identify with the story with a couple of zeroes less, read it with a couple of zeroes less. When a girl with a Rs. 1 crore net-worth marries a middle class guy with a net-worth of Rs. 8L, the problems are different from a guy with Rs. 1 cr net-worth marrying a girl with a net-worth of Rs. 8L.

Please understand that money has to be managed – whether it is a person with a Rs. 3L annual income borrowing Rs. 20L to buy a house or a person with a net-worth of Rs. 30 crores creating a trust to protect his progeny from messy and expensive divorce proceedings. I know people in both categories. They do exist, many of them do read this blog.

Subtle Jealousy

  1. Sir, I have net worth of 20+. But I do read your articles. I am mismanaging my money but do wish to follow your teachings. Frankly, even I am worried a bit about my finances.

  2. Hi Subra sir, In history there was a time when communist was required. In India, state where communist has been in power in the past, there was Zamindari system and peasant exploitation. Undocumented stories of struggle – Using people to yoke to plough (instead of oxen) and whipping, dipping farmers hands in boiling oil as punishment, ‘misbehavior’ with poor women, police custodial deaths, torturing, mysterious disappearance of people who revolted.. etc. It developed into a grudge gave rise to communist movements (naxalists even – when law and police used to not serve and protect – in the past – what else can be done? It is a paan singh tomar kind of moments..)

Modern day communist is not required as the law and order is more or less in place.. However there are pockets in this country where ‘light’ has not reached yet. All cities are not Mumbais and Delhis. If ‘jealousy’ is seen as a sin of the communists, then ‘greed’ can be seen as a sin of the capitalists.

  3. @SS:

‘misbehavior’ with poor women, police custodial deaths, torturing, mysterious disappearance of people who revolted

You mean as it is in Bengal currently? anybody who doesn’t support the ruling party or is not from “Religion of peace” – they face similar consequences.

At any point in time, if communism and socialism was the answer – we were asking wrong questions.

Regarding jealousy, we (as in middle class, lower middle class folks) need to understand that jealousy wont get us anywhere.
Let us learn the tips and tricks, and make our own life better – if our value system and background does not make us go to 20+ crore, at least lets try to one-tenth of that; that itself would be a job well done, we would end up at a much better place than we are now. We would be able to provide a platform for the next gen to think big and build on top of that.

  4. Hi mangoman,
No. Not Bengal of 2018 .. these relate to birth of commies and left ideologies in past. Though that was not answer, people had no choice

    Kerala from 1960-1970. (Rajan case)
    Naxalites in Bengal in 1969
Custodial death whose justice was delivered recently. (2018)

Here are some references how all this originates.
