What drives you? or What chases you?

When you go on a journey which (you know) is going to cost you Rs. 2000 do you ever travel with just Rs. 2000?

I am sure you do not. I would have Rs. 5000 cash. A debit card, a couple of credit cards…just in case.

Now when you quit a full time profession like brokerage – high risk, uncertain cash flow initially, but then a good cashflow business to ‘live’ off your portfolio, it is shit scary. Especially for a super conservative investor / person like me. I had a ‘house-wife’ and a 1 month old daughter to support. My parents were very well off and could still support me – so that portion is irrelevant.

It is not easy. I could not have written it better than this…like they say in Hindi…”saali phat thi hai”….and then you wonder “could I have done something bigger” or “would I have made more money”. You cannot wish away the self doubts. Then when I look at teaching, writing, learning about money – and the philosophy of money, you know you are better off than the Aum and Nav chasing jobs.

Change a few dates and this could have been my story. Ian Cassel says it much much better than what I could have said…
