I have done this post in the past…and this is not a post on how this would have become 650 crores – or whatever.

I am doing this post to tell you what response I get when I do such a post:

  1. If my father had Rs. 10,000 in 1980, he would have been the richest man in our family.

amazingly stupid reaction. Rs. 10,000 of 1980 – adjusting for a 8% inflation is only Rs. 1.6 lakhs – we all know that many people earn this in one month. So stop saying stupid things like “Rs. 10,000 of 1980 is like Rs. 1 crore of today” – it was not.

2. My grandfather was well paid and was earning only Rs. 200/300 in 1980. Oops sorry. A fresh chartered accountant was being paid Rs. 1000 per month as a salary in 1980. So Rs. 10,000 was the starting salary of a CA – 10 months salary not 3 years as some jokers claim it was. It was not.

3. How many people stayed on with Wipro for the whole journey?

does not matter. Even if you had exited partially and held on till today, a small dust of that 500 + crores would have fallen on you. Stop talking nonsense.

4. This is all theory – most people stay invested only for 2/4 years and then they sell off – I AGREE 100% with this. So it is those people who are stupid. I can count at least 1000 of my clients (ex clients – they were mine when I was a broker) who would have 30 year kinda holding periods.

  1. Subra,

Are there comparable stories on Mutual Funds also ? “My father had invested 500/- a month in the 90s in XXX Mutual Fund…”

  2. Still, 1.6 L was a great sum those days. If one had that much, they would have not bought Wipro or any other share for that matter. They would have gone for a piece of land or a house. Stock was a last thing for them to hear and invest in.

I am sure that none had done like that with Wipro.
