I get asked an amazing array of questions regarding buying…let me enumerate…

a) should I put my surplus into a debt fund NOW?

b) should I buy more gold?

c) should I shift from mid cap fund to a large cap fund (and the revers of course)

d) should I come out of BAF and go into a more aggressive equity fund?

e) should I buy a value fund or a growth fund?

f) should I start a SIP for 4 months or 4 years?

Honestly I do not have an answer to most of these questions. I do not know whether the market will hit 27000 and then go up to 45000. I seriously do not have a 5 month view on my portfolio. What makes me an expert is that I know that I do not know.

If you do not know what to buy buy the Sensex (or Nifty). If you are sure that the market leader in the coming rally is Pharma buy pharma. However don’t restrict yourself to Sun Pharma. Buy Dr. Reddy, Cipla, Cadilla, Lupin, Biocon – whatever suits you. If you think this is too much buy a pharma or a health care fund.

If you like Infra buy an Infra fund or LnT, or GMR, or…..whatever suits you. Or maybe Power companies is what you like? Tata Power, NTPC? What about Power equipment? Bhel? or you think the Chinese players will kill Bhel fully? Then what about an Asia Fund which invests in Chinese Power companies?

I do not know. You like energy? Ongc, IoC, Bpcl, Hpcl, …well these give good yields. Will the yields remain? will energy prices crash – there are no users remember? Planes have been “hangared” and cars have been “garaged”.

Oh you think people will anyway buy toothpaste, sanitary napkins, shampoo, so Hul, PnG, Gillette, Colgate Palmolive, Marico, Dabur look good?

Frankly we are all lost for choice. We have no clue what to buy. Everything looks cheap – and we have no clue whether it will look cheaper! Will the recovery be V shaped, U shaped or L shaped? tough to answer?

So Nifty, is it? well see the video..
