How do you get on to be on the path to being wealthy?

Well, it is not exactly easy, but yes there are some habits which are worth COPYING from the more successful people. Till you are able to do them all, at least fake it. Let me enumerate a few:

  1. Exercise: I think physical exercise goes beyond the fitness of the body. It brings a sense of fitness to the mind too. A clear schedule is built into the daily routine when the body gets an extra dose of self generated medicine.
  2. Practice gratitude: I recently met a father and son duo after a long time. The son is doing a far more complex business compared to his father. Both of them had so much gratitude for the father’s elder brother, and for the whole family, to the world around them,…that it was stunning almost surreal. It is easy to practice gratitude. Just look around and you will see how much we have to be to thankful about. I seriously do.
  3. Simple food and clothing habits: Do we need elaboration on this? Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates have taught us enough about simplicity have they not?
  4. Build Relationships: Social, family and business relationships have to be made, created, and sustained. There is no point in have a Rolodex of 5000 cards, Facebook friends numbering 5000…..and finding that you have done NOTHING to keep in touch with all the people. Make a list of people you like and say hello to them on a regular basis. It is not very difficult. If you can find 30 such people call one person per day. If you find 300 such people, dammit you are lucky!! Call 2 people everyday…and keep at it for the rest of your life.
  5. The successful people accept responsibility for what they are, what they have, etc.
  6. They do not blame ANYBODY for what they have/ do not have in their lives
  7. Many of them are very good at visualization. They have achieved their goals because they have been able to articulate it well to the world.
  8. After visualization, they have had the Patience to wait for the World to give it to them. Practice Meditation. It helps.
  9. Read a lot. Maybe 50 pages a day for starters. Then push your way up.
  10. Practice affirmations. Celebrate small victories. Daily. Even more frequently if you are doing it daily. It helps.
  11. Be positive in thinking. Every event in your life teaches you something. Learn from them.
  12. I actually do not know what impact it has, but most successful people do some volunteer work for sure.
  13. Remember even Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates have talked a lot about having a mentor. Get a mentor and use him/her as a sounding board.

Maybe there are more…..but will you remember more than a Baker’s dozen?

  1. Well articulated will try to follow and make sure by end of 2018 almost all above is implemented in my personal as well as professional life.
subra please Keep posting articles other than personal finance

  2. CHELLAMANI RAMAN ATHAZHAWALLUR

    Very true Subra,

    1. A sustained meaningful genuine relationship with even 10 people is also enough .

    2. I sincerely thank daily morning for what we have as of now whihc does not prevent me from aspiring more. On this particular topic after a lot of deliberation, I personally found that striking a balance between thanking for what we have and what we aspire is the best way to live.

    3. Yes, we should assume responsibility for all our actions. After all, human being is the Creation of nature which has been given the best ability of decision, discretion and judgment which should be used to the best extent.

    4. Doing something for others – This I do sincerely by educating 4 orphan children on a continuous basis. For me, this gives more satisfaction than anything else. There is a saying in Sanskrit that try to be or do good thru Vak (speech), Manas (thinking) or Kaya (action). Swami Vivekananda said that even if every one capable, reform the live of at least one downtrodden, life would be great for all in this world. A simple but a powerful and easy one to practise and put into action.

    Thank U..
