Aid India gets an award…Chandra Anil
When my young sis Chandra Anil gave up a lucrative job in the Tech space and took up a job in helping kids..we were not surprised. She graduated when Y2K was at its peak..and she told me …’Sorry, tech jobs are boring. How exciting can it get when you change a ddmmyy to ddmmyyyy? Blunt? well she choose to be.
Weekends she worked with kids in slums..and she once told me ‘I am more happy with what I do in the weekend than what I do during the week’…well I never had a ‘traditional career’ (and never held a competitive post!)..so it rang a bell.
One day she just walked out of a job paying X a month to a job paying X a year. It takes guts. So proud of you kid sister…so proud of you. Magsasay anyone? (well Breaking news: remember 10 years from now WHEN she gets it..remember YOU read it here!!).

carry on the good work girl,…really both of us know awards do not matter, right? When our hearts know what we are doing is fun….well the results will follow, will it not. Like they say ‘Find a purpose, the resources will come to you’…so one day you can say..i did not change ddmmyy to ddmmyyyy, but hey I made a difference to 20,000 kids in India.

Nice post and I applaud her decision. But to be fair, tech jobs are not all about date format changes. Engineers have to inteface with colleagues all around the world, interact with business analysts and make non-tech people understand an extremely technical solution, stay updated on cutting edge technologies etc. For this they are rewarded with a nice remuneration and more importantly a chance to travel the world and gain new life experiences. Frankly, I am against portraying tech engineers as slaves to the desk dying a day at a time. But then I’m not totally unbiased, myself being one. 🙂

guys this is not about TECH JOBS..it is about a person making a choice between what is enjoyable and what people do. Making the right choice is up to us. Consequences follow selection. Basic, elementary, Bhagwat Gita.
