Being a trainer has its advantages – and it has its disadvantages too! The advantage is I have a ring view of the industry – and have shared it with many of my students. The disadvantage is one tends to get critical or some times hypercritical of events in the financial services industry.

If you look outside the financial services industry, you realize that the dark happenings there are just as bad as in the financial services industry – sometimes even worse! It reminds me of a small story…

A young couple move into a new house in a new neighborhood. The next morning, the young woman sees her neighbor hang the wash outside.

“That laundry is not very clean”, she said, “she doesn’t know how to wash properly. Perhaps she needs better laundry soap”.

Or perhaps she needs to be taught how to wash. She is doing a bad job.

Her husband looked on, but remained silent. He just heard the comment.

Every time her neighbor would hang her wash to dry, the young woman would make the same comments.

About one month later, the woman was surprised to see a nice clean wash on the line and said to her husband: “Look! She has learned how to wash properly. I wonder who taught her this.”

The husband said: “I got up early this morning and cleaned our windows!”

So I keep wondering is it time for me to clean my specs or is the industry really dirty? Or is it a combination of the two?

I keep cleaning my specs – like Ceaser’s wife!

“There is a certain mindset that always finds fault, even in the best of conditions. From a distance, even craters cannot be seen. As a matter of fact, even on a smooth surface there will be holes. If you are only interested in the holes, you will not see the magnanimity of things. Become Anasuya (devoid of fault-finding eyes) for the knowledge to blossom in you” – Sri Sri
