aditya these guys have shares held for 10 years also. So first is to see what kind of an investor/trader you are. A couple of shares that these guys have held for a long time include Siemens, KCP, Carborundum Universal, Coromandel Fertilisers, Ingersoll Rand,...and some shares in which they have traded include Bharti, Tata Tele, etc.

the worst thing that a blog can do is raise expectations for people to believe that they can handle their own portfolios by reading blogs. So that is the first disclaimer.

Sumit: If it is well known that equities will beat all other asset classes (I am not even remotely saying this is true or false) how come 97% of the retail savings in our country goes to banks and post offices? beats me. So it is not so universal. Trading strategies can never be learnt from a blog. As a broker I have seen very, very few traders make money consistently. And the kind of discipline that they bring into trading - they could make a success of anything.

Ganesh: Value investing holds. I know a group of 40 people (in Mumbai) who have portfolios which have given a rocking 70% CAGR over the past 10 years with very little trading - maybe 10% portfolio turnover.

Subra,
Great article. However do you think buy and hold works in today's markets? To me it looks like a trader's market. This holds for even quality stocks. Just imagine someone entering at 21k levels. (I understand it was highly overvalued then) Its almost 3 years now. Its nowhere near 21k now
Please throw some light on it.
