A great swimming pool has been opened to the public recently near my residence. I told a friend it costs Rs. 12k for a 1-year membership. He said it was too expensive. He is right. There are pools in Navi Mumbai that cost Rs. 3k a year. So 12k is expensive. That was his argument.

My take is different. Investing in a gym or a swimming pool is different from SPENDING on a television set. If the gym / pool can make it attractive for you to go say 300 days a year, the cost is Rs. 40 a day. Whereas the swimming pool where you pay Rs. 4000 for a year and end up going only say 100 days in a year – that also costs you Rs. 40 a day. It all depends on how you look at it. Simple.
